A writ of certiorari refers to when a superior court orders for the proceedings previously in an inferior court, thereby stopping an illegal order made by the inferior court (D.P., 1994). Its original use was initially only for the inferior courts, but it was later extended to authorities with quasi-judicial powers and those in tribunals, even though they were not under the High Court.
