The first World War 1 started on 28 June 1914.The assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinard  of Austria and his wife Sophie was the immediate cause  of the first World war 1.Archduke Franz Ferdinard of Austria was the nephew of Emperor Franz Josef and heir to the throne of Austral  and Hungary.

The assassination was planned by a Serbian group, called the black Hand and the man who shot Franz Ferdinard and his wife was a Bosnian revolutionary  named Gavrilo PRINCIPAL. During this time a number of DEFENSE  alliances existed between the major European countries. This shows  that, if one country declared war on ANOTHER What started World War 1?

This shows  that, if one country was declared war on  another, the other countries would also have to enter the conflict because it was in treaty they agreed .Britain, France, Ireland and Russia were part of an alliance called the Triple Ententes, while Germany aligned itself with Austria- Hungary- know as the central powers…………………………………………
