A point to point connection abbreviated as PPP is one of the most common WAN connection technology type. It is mainly used when connecting LANs to the main WANs which are the service providers and also when connecting the segments of a LAN to the network of an organization. This type of connection of LAN to WAN connection is also referred to as leased line or serial connection. This name comes from the fact that the lines are normally leased by a telephone provider company, which is the carrier and the lines are issued for use by the company that leases them.
