Expert Point of View
My research focuses on two experts, Dr. Beth Harry and Dr. Steven Zucker. The two suggest that the sculpture depicts Mary holding the dead Christ. The sculpture is quite intimate although it is quite small in relation to the church that holds it. Mary looks quite young but her body and lap have both been enlarged in order to carry the dead body, the realism of the weight of the dead body (Müntz, 2011).
