Style and Artistic Priorities
Lastly, illustrate how these works or perspectives represent the dominant or reactionary thinking of the time, especially in light of new innovations and old traditions in these areas, as well as artistic conventions like genre and medium.
Students should address the historical factors surrounding each work, including major scientific or technological advancements and political circumstances, corroborating their argument with the class readings up to that point. Students will be required to demonstrate their understanding of the course material as it applies to the subject, as well as analyze the works in the light of their time and place in history. To accomplish this, students should use at least 2 outside scholarly sources illustrating the historical situation of these works and the decisions made by their authors.
