The Parable of the Good Samaritan (Bailey, 2008) [PDF]

The idea of a Good Samaritan is now a common cultural trope. It usually refers to someone who goes out of the way to help another.

In four to five paragraphs, provide an analysis of two different interpretations of The Parable of the Good Samaritan (Bailey, 2008) and then respond to the questions.

In the first interpretation, treat the parable as if the Samaritan is an image of Jesus. Explain the parable accordingly.

In the second interpretation, treat the parable as if the man beaten by thieves is an image of Jesus. Explain the parable accordingly.

What do you learn by interpreting it in two such different ways?

Which do you think is the better way?

Or should Jesus not be a part of understanding the parable at all? Is it wrong-headed to think that the parable is about Jesus? Why or why not?
