As a 21st century viewer, I would not support the argument that symbolism is well portrayed in the portrait. In my view, the portrait shows a married couple having a rest in the bedroom. According to Gardner & Kleiner (2010), the wealth of this couple is reflected through the fur lined fabric that they are dressed in.  The pulley and the chandelier seen in the background are also used to strengthen or support the argument that this couple is well-established………………………………
