We were asked to choose a movie or television series that we enjoy. A television series that I enjoy and is currently watching is Grey’s Anatomy. Grey’s Anatomy is focused on the life inside of a hospital of a group of young doctors at Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital, who began their careers at the facility as interns. Grey’s Anatomy also reflects to gender constructs because it often addresses problems such as race, feminism, social status and sexual orientation. As the show began there are barley any women in charge of the departments, however, as the show progresses a couple women become in charge. Dr. Torres becomes chief of ortho, Dr. Grey becomes chief of general surgery, Dr. Shepherd becomes chief of Neuroscience and more importantly the first women ever becomes chief of surgery, which is Dr. Bailey. As a result, the show emphasis that women in our society are important and are seen as being continuously more assertive figures. The show Grey’s Anatomy helped feminists and female viewers to get their voices heard, and allow them to change the current established social norms of society.
