The idea of the tabula rasa is a good one to applied to this text. In fact, there is a good website on the idea of parental responsibility that discusses this issue. In part the article says that “[t]he hostile exchanges that occurred between Victor and the creature throughout Frankenstein suggested that, under the tabula rasa theory, not only does the dismissal of parental responsibility transform a child’s mind from a blank slate, it initiates significant issues in regards to the affiliation between the two individuals.” What do you think of this perspective?
