In response to your peers, identify one way that technology has influenced the social change they identified in their initial post.

This concept is part of your final submission. Make sure you review this concept in the Final Project Guidelines and Rubric document.

Social change as the only constant in society is an important thing to

notice as we look back through history. Without social change there

wouldn’t have been things like woman’s suffrage movement or the civil

rights movement. Both of those movements were very important parts in

shaping the future of our country. Judging by the news we see being

broadcast around the country everyday clearly there is still some

inequality in many social issues today. I think one of the most

important steps to get to a point where equality can happen is to start

the conversation. I think one social change that may surprise people is

the legalization of marijuana. Not the typical social change one might

think of but taking a drug and bringing about steps of legalization is

one of the biggest changes we have faced in recent times. Taking

something that ten years ago would of gotten you arrested and now its

okay to do is just a wild thought sometimes. I think what is happening

is this millennial generation is getting older and the ideologies are

different between them and the last generation of voters.

Sociologists describe social change as the only constant in society because our intelligence, access to information, and postmodernity is ever-growing. Our grandparents and some parent’s will not understand the postmodern, digital era in the same way we do so I believe more liberal progressions on the world will take place (Ferris & Stein, 2016). While on the subject of our parents and grandparents that grew up in the early and middle 1900’s, I’m going to discuss the prevalence of sexual abuse. From watching several upon several documentaries and stories on the internet of the abuse that the older generation of woman had to endure without their abuser facing consequences because of the strength the male had at the period of time. Maybe it was pressure of not saying anything through manipulation, blackmail, or humiliation. But today, woman have found the strength. The #MeToo movement has started a national dialogue about de-stigmatizing the need for healing and introduce resources for survivors (Burke, 2018).

This movement has exposed men’s preconceived notion that they have a power over woman. This is a social change that has been needed for decades. Perpetrators need to be held accountable for their actions, so the nation can see that this type of violence should be punished by the furthest extent of the law (Burke, 2018). This social movement is intended to interrupt sexual violence and expose this behavior to damnation.
