Discussion 1: Introductions
By now in your program, you have likely found opportunities to form relationships with and gain support from your MSW colleagues and Instructors. Practicing social workers seek out professional communities and networks in much the same way.

The topic of research can bring trepidations, even for the most experienced professional. Therefore, it’s important to draw on the support of the community. Throughout this course, the Discussions offer a means for garnering encouragement and feedback as you and your peers explore the research process and gain skill in scientific inquiry. Think of the Discussions as your very own research community, where you can bounce research ideas off colleagues, process the concepts you are learning and applying, and generate solutions to issues or confusions that arise.
In this first Discussion, you introduce yourself to the class through a brief video and consider the comfort, experience, and questions you bring to the topic of scientific research.
To Prepare:
Reflect on your comfort and experience with scientific research, as well as any questions or concerns you have going into this course.
Review the Kaltura Media Uploader area in the course navigation menu for information on recording and uploading media in this Discussion.
By Day 3
Record and upload a 2-minute video which includes the following:

Your name
Your geographic location
An explanation of your comfort level and experience with scientific research
Any questions or concerns you have going into this course.

Note: To upload your media to this Discussion thread, use the Kaltura Media option from the mashup tool drop-down menu. Refer to the Kaltura Media Uploader area in the course navigation menu for more information about how to upload media to the course.

Include a transcript and/or edit closed captioning on your video to ensure that your presentation is accessible to colleagues of differing abilities.
