The quality control manager is responsible for making sure the companies’ products and standards meet the quality standards. The quality control manager also “supervises staff and oversees product development procedures to ensure that products meet quality and efficiency standards. The Quality Control Manager will also work with clients to ensure the final products meet their needs and requirements” (Quality control manager job description, 2021). An addition, the quality control manager must also unsure that the products are compliant with the regulations set by the Federal Trade Commission and Food and Drug Administration regulations.

 

In order to avoid customer complaints and potential issues with Federal Trade Commission and Food and Drug Administration regulations, the acceptable weight range tolerance for the candy packages is plus 1 ounce for each package. The company should not provide less product than the label states. The company should try to match the weight that is printed on the packaging to the best of their ability in order to not loose revenue, but some tolerance is necessary in order for the production line to run smoothly.

 

The quality control process that I recommend is having an out-of-control action plan in place so that if an operator notices that there is something out-of-control, they can consult the plan (Sharpe, et al., 2019). I would also recommend implementing total quality management. Total quality management is defined as “extends the theory of quality control to include the total organization and the leadership of management” (Sharpe, et al., 2019, pg. 22-29). In order for the plan to be successful, the entire organization needs to be included in the plan. I would also include statistical process control. Statistical process control provides “examination of variation in a process over time to identify the source of variation” (Sharpe, et al., 2019, pg. 22-29). Including statistical process control provides the company with an avenue to identify where the variation is coming from and allows the company to make changes as needed in order to eliminate the variation. Quality control activities that will be put into place would include peer reviews as well as inspections. Quality assurance activated that will be put in place will include, but are not limited to documentation regarding the process, process checklist, as well as audits.

 

This process would be acceptable by the government regulations due to the fact that it meets the criteria that has been set by the Federal Trade Commission and Food and Drug Administration regulations. This process would ensure that the quality of product would meet and surpass the expectations of the government regulations. The quality control and quality assurance information would be available to not only the organization, but also the regulatory bodies so that they can verify that the quality of service is being managed.

 

These techniques would reject the out of limit packages due to the fact that they provide cross checks for each package of candy that is created, which would ensure that packages that do not meet the minimum standard to be rejected. The quality team would be responsible for ensuring that all packages were up to the standards that are set in the quality control process.
