Physical evidence comes in all shapes and sizes. The search pattern is dictated by the crime type and possible evidence.

  • Outline the various search patterns, how they are completed and when they are most effective.
  • Describe all the steps required to properly document a crime scene, discuss in detail.
  • Identify the steps to photographing a crime scene and what photos must be taken.
  • When completing a crime scene sketch, it is important to include specific information on each sketch, what material must be on each sketch?

This individual work should include the following:

  • An in-depth submission that should be free of spelling and grammar errors.
  • An essay 2-3 pages in length.
  • You will be assessed on the rationale used in addressing the questions/issue posted, and how well you justify your argument regarding this issue.
  • Your response must be thought-provoking, have well developed ideas and/or opinions, and should reference any supporting material from the text, lecture or other sources you have used to complete the assignment.

Physical evidence comes in all shapes and sizes. The search pattern is dictated by the crime type and possible evidence. There are several different types of crime scene patterns:

The grid pattern: it is simply two parallel searches, offset by 90 degrees performed one after another. It involves walking north and south in lines up and down the crime scene then turning and walking east and west back and forth.  It is efficient when you want good coverage of the crime scene.
