Task: Create a case study through observation and personality analysis of a human subject of your choice. This person should be someone that you have had some basis of a relationship with. This relationship should have afforded you the opportunity to observe the person in different settings and under a range of varying circumstances (celebration, difficulty, stressful, etc.) The personality assessment will be based on informal and formal assessment of your participant. Informal analysis will include basic thoughts and feelings you have about whom this person is and a description of personality characteristics that are apparent to you. While maintaining the individual’s confidentiality, you should then formally analyze your subject making use of your text and course lecture notes to identify, discuss and describe 5 key personality traits. Discuss the person’s personality in relation to two of the six domains that Larsen and Buss outline in the text. Reflect on the information obtained and discussed in your case study. Describe areas that were difficult in carrying out this assignment.
Steps:
Select a person whose personality or character (as it appears to you and/or others youconsult) you want to describe. Examples of people you may wish to consider are outlined below.
Introduce your subject briefly citing basic information about who they are and how you know them. It is important to maintain confidentiality at all times, so please use initials instead of a full name. (4 marks)
Informal Analysis: Describe and discuss your impression about this person. You may or may not make reference to specific personality traits. Describe the types of interactions you have had with this individual and what aspects of their personality you have witnessed. Describe how they think, feel and act. Outline what you believe you do not know about this person. (6 marks)
Formal Analysis: Consult your textbook and your lecture notes and identify 5 key personality traits/characteristics that you see in your participant. Outline what evidence you have for making these statements about the participant’s personality. (15 marks)
Application of two theoretical perspectives.Demonstrate your understanding of how personality theory can be applied to an individual’s personality characteristics. Making reference to the person’s attributes, development and current behavior, use your chosen theories to actually explain the person’s personality. Compare the results of these analyses. Do they come to the same conclusion? Which theory seems more useful? Which analysis seems more plausible? Why?(10 marks)
Reflective conclusion: Describe how you were able to make inferences about your participant’s personality. What evidence led you to draw particular conclusions? Discuss any impression you had about whether some of the person’s traits that you identified actually changed depending on the situation they were in (when they were home, at school, at work, under stress or pressure, in a bad/good mood, etc.) Describe the likelihood that your subject would agree with your assessment of their personality. Finally, compare your informal and formal analysis. Add any further comments about what you learned or noticed from doing this exercise. (5 marks)

Your paper will be graded on the quality of your assessment, your understanding of the perspectives you have chosen, and your ability to support your arguments. Basic writing skills will also be taken into account. A breakdown of the marks is outlined in the steps. The paper will be marked out of 40 and is worth 25% of your final mark.
