The perpetual inventory is a method that allows the organization to keep a record of their inventory through the continuous record of the inventory through the use of management software. The periodic inventory system, on the other hand, is a system in which the updates of the inventory of goods are made periodically or within a stipulated time.  The two differ in that the perpetual method is more continuous when compared to the periodic system which is made periodically (Libby, Libby, and Short, 2011).
