HOMEWORK EXAMPLE as posted in rubric doc in announcement:
1) Define CAM.
CAM stands for complementary and alternative medicine.  CAM consists of many different therapies and treatments that are used to prevent and treat illness and disease. These methods are not typically taught in Medical school or practiced by Western medical doctors.  Various practices use natural methods or substances to promote the body to heal or stay in harmony. The mind body and spirit of a person are brought into the equation of healing. (Falvo, pp.210-211, 2004)

Critical thinking/examples:
For example, Chiropractic, homeopathy, naturopathy, yoga, meditation and energy fields are some of the therapies used in CAM. I had a patient with diabetes and used to also get nutritional work completed by a Chiropractor that helped to control his blood sugar.
Hi Class, please be sure to create a highly organized assignment. There are 2 parts to each answer.
Write out the question and bold it.
Define patient compliance and explain its importance in your field.
1.       research: Write the research answer: The readings say… Research says…. (cite in the text)
2.      critical thinking: Write your critical thinking: How can you apply this? What are your thoughts? Do you have any examples that clarify?

Critical thinking:
This is required in class. What do you conclude? How can you demonstrate your understanding? Full points are not earned by research only or by the number of posts you make. Apply the material. Use examples. Show your thinking and own conclusions.

Organize your work:
Please also organize your post.
If you need 3 examples, please label your examples 123.
Make it easy to read: Split up paragraphs online for easier reading for your peers.

In general:
Assume the reader knows nothing about the topic. Explain difficult or unusual terms. Define difficult terms early in your paper and give a specific example.
Avoid the words, “I, We, Us, and You” in academic writing. Avoid informal tones and slang. It is assumed that these conclusions being drawn are the author’s opinions.
Create specific examples to illustrate your points. Provide great detail and do not over generalize.
In your introduction
Leader your reader through the paper. Let the reader know what you are going to be writing about. (In your conclusion: let them know what you did write about.)  Place your thesis at the end of the first paragraph. This should let the reader understand why they should care about the topic. It should draw a main conclusion. It has a point of view for the paper. It has a claim you will prove.  It should set the tone and direction for the paper.

The body
The first sentence of each paragraph should have a very strong topic sentence. This is key. It relates a small argument from the thesis that you will prove with research and then think/write critically.
For example, if your thesis is: Cats are furry, cute and smart.
Then, one paragraph topic sentence would relate to Cats are furry. One to how they are cute. And a third to how they are smart.
So, in essence, you are proving the thesis that you created.
Does this help?
The topic sentences set the “mini argument” that goes toward proving your main thesis/argument.

Separate your paper into organized paragraphs. Use each paragraph of your paper to explain one point really well.  Introduce your point at the beginning of the paragraph to let the reader know what they are going to read in that specific paragraph.

An effective way to use your good research is to weave it between your own conclusions within the paragraph. Draw conclusions based on research. Avoid writing a paragraph of all research or all conclusions/opinions.

Keep in mind that you are always trying to tie each paragraph back to the point/thesis of the paper. Make clear and concise statements to help the reader. Ok, good question. let’s see if this helps…
If you have a lot of research, this is great. However, use this to make a point.
For example,,
If you have in mod 1, a verse about healing and love. You can make a point that this the concept for a healing hospital is not new.
It’s basically more about what you think about the research in relationship to the purpose of the paper and thesis.
Does this help?

Wrap up:  Avoid ending paragraphs with in text citations. These mini conclusions should be your own thoughts based on the findings/research of the paragraph.
Transition: You can create transitional sentences by writing one sentence at the end of a paragraph creatively linking your current point to your next point. By doing this, you are helping your reader understand the point of your paper and leading them through it point by point. It creates less confusion for the reader and more clarity overall.
Why can I not put a citation at the end of a paragraph?  Because you need to have your own original conclusions on the research. It’s not enough to put down the research and leave it. Tell me when this research matters. Tell me why it’s important for your paragraph point and the overall thesis. Make your own conclusions. Don’t make me guess. Demonstrate your understanding.
Let me use a formula of sorts.

1.      Topic sentence
2.      Research and argument/thought
3.      Sum up the paragraph point/argument
4.      Transition : For Example: Not only is the building a point to be considered for healing but the staff is also critical for a healing hospital blue print.

5.      Topic sentence of paragraph Example: The employees create hope and healing for the patients. (Do you see how it links from the last transition… like rail road cars- each paragraph is a one and linked together- the train is a paper.)
6.      Research on why this is true.
7.      Sum up the paragraph point/argument
Transition

The conclusion

Restate your thesis, main points and draw your conclusions. Do not introduce new information in your conclusion to prove a new point. Sometimes a direct quote can make a great impact on the reader and is useful.  Relate your conclusion to your intro
