Curtis flowers was tried for murder involving the same incident in 6 different trials

Curtis flowers was tried for murder involving the same incident in 6 different trials. In the trial flowers was accused of murder and aggravated robbery of the store owner. The other surprising thing about the case is the first trial flowers was tried for was only for one person that was killed but in the later trials flowers ended getting tried for the other murders as well. This is what surprises me the most due to the 5th amendment double jeopardy. This case went through trial 6 numerous times. Resolutions in court cases to me seem big always so cut and dry sometimes these things take weeks, months, and even years to resolve. This case should be a precedent for the 5th amendment due to how many times this case has seen the inside of a court room. There needs to be some policies in place that keep injustice from this happening. This case has violated flowers 6th and 14th amendment throughout these trials. The jury was selected using its peremptory strikes in a racially discriminatory way. The court struck 5 African American jurors. If there’s any way to improve the jury process is to do the best and try to stay unbiased and unfavorable.

What surprises me the most about the Curtis Flowers case is the fact that there were other court appointed officers who where either apart of the case or at least a witness to the trial(s) and at no point did anyone question the motives of the states attorney or the judge.  I honestly do not have any expectations of the criminal justice system.  As the years have progressed, people being wrongly convicted, illegally sentenced, in addition to other violations of a person life happened more in American courts than not.  The resolution of this case doesn’t differ from my expectations because I am aware of the type of world we live in.  Primarily, those individuals of an ethnic background are more likely to be sentenced longer, and handled differently than those who are of an ethnic background.  Based on the Flower’s case, recommendations to improve the court system are simple.  Those in authority should follow the law as it is written, treat people the same, follow the same protocols as set forth in the rules of criminal procedure.  Nothing extra, just the simple things, law enforcement officers, judges, and attorneys to follow the description of the job they were hired for.  Not cut corners, not falsely or illegally send people to jail/prison based on their race, environmental, social, or financial status.  Unless everyone who is an employee of any criminal justice department is fired and hiring starts from the beginning, eliminating those judges, prosecutors, etc. who do commit criminal acts if not as much more than everyday people, the system will continue to fail all those who come in contact with it.
