Social media campaigns often provide “tools” for an audience to use to help spread the campaign. Your task in this assignment is to provide instructions that your audience can use to spread your campaign even further.
To prepare to create a set of action tools, find several examples of action tools for various social media campaigns on the Web, and do a genre analysis of them. The “Technology Tools Guide”, attached too this assignment, has a section on action toolkits with links to a few examples. The following questions will help you conduct your genre analysis. (Remember: your final product will be a set of instructions addressed toward your audience, and not an essay with answers to the questions. The questions are meant to help you decide how you want to create your own document and what content you want to include. The questions or your answers to them should not appear in any documents you create.)
- What kinds of action tools do social media campaigns seem to include?
- What kinds of instructions does an action toolkit generally include? What are those instructions like, and how might they be similar to or different from other kinds of instructions?
- How are action tools typically organized in comparison to other types of writing?
- Through what forms of media are action tools typically conveyed?
- What does a typical action toolkit look like? What form does/do the document/s take?
- What are typical visual designs in an action toolkit like?
- Given the list of typical tools you found for question #1, what kinds of tools do you think will work best for your own campaign?
- What strategies will you use to make your document attractive, accessible, and easy to use?
After you have answers to the questions above (and any related questions you can think of), create an action toolkit for your social media campaign. Your action toolkit should primarily be a set of instructions that helps other individuals or organizations promote your campaign (depending on the needs of your campaign).
Add your action toolkit to your Web site and, as you have done with all the other components of your campaign, make it easy to access.
Update Social Media Campaign Website:
Now that you have completed all aspects of your social media campaign, update your website with your video, infographics, visuals, action tools, etc. As always, be sure to use principles of good visual design.
