longitudinal analysis

Longitudinal analysis: In this activity, I am asking you to get onto the mischooldata.org website, and begin to explore how to use the interactive inquiry tools to answer questions about student learning. You are to write a paper that gives brief descriptions of your findings, as directed in the following instructions. Please bring this completed assignment to our next class.

Getting started
Log onto https://www.mischooldata.org
On left hand side, select “Student Testing”
On the tabs across the top, select “MEAP” (if you teach in High School, you can select “MEAP” or “ACT College Readiness”)
On the new screen, select “edit report” (in yellow circle)
You may select your own school/district. I am using Arcadia Elementary in Kalamazoo for my example (Kalamazoo international students are encouraged to use Arcadia School).
Select ISD: (Kalamazoo RESA)
Select district (Kalamazoo Public Schools)
Select school (Arcadia Elementary)
Queries
Snapshot of current student achievement in Mathematics
“Edit report”; select
Year: 2011-2012
Grade: All grades
Subject: Mathematics
Report Category: All students

Select “View Results”

Please write a brief summary of the scores you see. What do you see that is important to know about the level of student proficiency in your school? Are there any scores that “stand out” from others?

EXPLORE the 2011-2012 data (disaggregate by demographic data):
Under “Report Settings”, select a single grade whose results you found interesting. Briefly describe the scores you see.
Under “Report Settings”, change the “Report Category” to look at the proficiency of students from different populations (such as, “gender”, “English Language Learners”, etc.). Briefly summarize your primary findings.

EXPLORE “Trend” data (longitudinal analysis)
Looking at last graph you examined, please switch from “Snapshot” to “Trend” view, using the buttons at the top of the graph. This should change your graphic display to a five-year longitudinal analysis of the data/variables you selected in part b., above.
Under “edit report”, change your report settings. Do you see any trends or patterns in the scores reported? Briefly summarize your findings using the Trend analyses.

this is note from the teacher:Every resource I reviewed either goes too deep, too fast, or over-emphasizes the mathematical formulae. (Please note: we are not going to focus on formulas!) I am asking that you spend some time researching on these two basic statistical areas. I am attaching a pdf file from a book chapter for teachers.)
