Purpose of Assignment:
The purpose of this assignment is to assess students’ ability to 1) explain (introduce) a lifespan
development event, problem or issue and explicitly state how it has/does/or will impact you—past,
present, or future; 2) apply the concepts and major theoretical approach(es) to the event, problem or
issue that is being discussed in this paper—making certain the chosen theoretical approach is aligned
with the lifespan identified (past, present, or future—adolescence, early adulthood, middle adulthood,
or late adulthood); 3) explicitly describe how the event/problem/issue has/does/or will impact you
physically, cognitively, and socioemotionally; 4) Use information literacy skills to find and integrate
supporting content (scholarly peer reviewed article/data-driven study, a national non-profit website, a
governmental agency, verifiable local community resources/phone numbers/addresses, and newspaper
or magazine article); and, 5) apply APA ethical standards and best practices to shape how you would
alleviate the event/problem/issue discussed in this paper (conclusion/resolution). This story can be
fictional if you are uncomfortable with sharing your life’s circumstances.
Instructions:
Students are expected to write a 6-to-7-page paper, including the title page and references page. This
means you are expected to write 4 to 5 pages of substantial content, supported by evidence and
verifiable resources. You should have an introduction paragraph that defines and describes the
event/problem/issue that will be discussed in the paper. You should have six body paragraphs aligned
with the criteria for this assignment and a conclusion, including the ethically sound resolution. The
paper should be in APA Style, written in 3rd person, with at least 10 citations (5 from the book, 5 from
other sources, with a max of 2 web sources [not wikis]). It should be double spaced, Times New Roman,
12 pt font. Students will submit the final product to Safe Assign. A Safe Assign score (plagiarism
percentage) of 15% or less is needed or your paper will not be graded.
Criteria:
1) Identify the event/problem/issue and situate it within the context of the lifespan for which it will
be discussed in the paper (adolescence, early adulthood, middle adulthood, late adulthood).
2) Elaborate on the lifespan chosen to discuss the dilemma (adolescence, early adulthood, middle
adulthood, late adulthood).
3) Apply a theoretical approach that aligns with the lifespan chosen.
4) Discuss the physical, cognitive, and socioemotional impacts of the dilemma being discussed.
5) Integrate a scholarly peer reviewed article (i.e., data driven study) that addresses the dilemma
being discussed.
6) Present verifiable local community resources (phone numbers, addresses, etc.) that is publicly
available to the public and would benefit others experiencing the event/problem/issue being
discussed in this paper (dilemma).
7) Explicitly state how the APA ethical standards and best practices will be considered when
putting forth a resolution to alleviate the impact of the event/problem/issue.
8) Conclude with a sound, well-cited and evidence supported resolution for the
event/problem/issue.
