Monasteries were buildings where priests known as monks used to teach young children. The monks are credited for the historic events that they recorded during the middle ages. The reason why most people preferred these schools is the fact that it’s only monks who knew how to read and write. The teachings were based on religion and the need to observe ethics and good morals in life (Burton, and Stöber, 2008).
