Purchase or Borrow a Leadership Book
This course requires you to read a leadership book of your choosing. The book you select should reflect your unique background, worldview, and career path.
The reading you select can be either an actual book about leadership or a nonfiction book or novel that you believe has a message about leadership that speaks to you. Whatever you select, it should be a book that you are willing to share with your colleagues.
If you have not already done so, take the necessary steps to select and acquire a leadership book and begin reading it this week.
Course Project
Before the end of Week Six, you will complete a course project which includes either of the following:
Volunteering at an organization of your choosing.
Conducting an interview with a leader of an organization of your choosing.
If you elect to volunteer:
Begin searching the VolunteerMatch website, and identify volunteer opportunities in your community.
Consider which opportunities would best align with what you believe to be your leadership purpose.
Contact your volunteer organization to determine when you will be able to commit some of your time in the next 4 weeks.
Note: If necessary, you may search other volunteer websites to identify opportunities in your community.
If you elect to interview:
Select one organization that aligns with what you believe to be your leadership purpose.
This week, begin to make calls or write emails to secure an interview.
Begin developing a list of interview questions that focus on the concept of finding your “true north,” complexity leadership, and leadership purpose. For example:
How does your interviewee stay on target and on track when many competing priorities and complexities arise in his or her organization?
