An anomie can be defined as the lack of normal social standards. According to Emile Durkheim, this concept states that the lack of rules results to a psychological sense of worthlessness and frustration. The person chooses to engage in criminal activity since he lacks a reason not to. This is because he/she feels worthless, alienated and that their efforts to achieve anything else are not fruitful.
