The purpose of the reflection paper is to reflect on what you have learned from this course. This is not a summary. A reflection paper is an opportunity for you to express your thoughts about the material that you are studying by writing about it. Reflection writing is a great way to study because it gives you a chance to process what you have learned and increases your ability to remember it.
In this assignment, you will share your own thoughts and opinions and tie them to the readings from the course. You will also compare them to those of the person you interviewed in Unit IV.
Use the guidelines below as you reflect on the course material.
- What are your thoughts about the main topics?
- Why are these topics or concepts important?
- How do they apply to your career or future career?
- How do your thoughts and opinions compare to those of the individual you interviewed in Unit IV?
- How will what you have learned in this course affect your thinking on the topics moving forward?
Specifically address the topics below:
- the role of race in the criminal justice system,
- improvements to the criminal justice system related to multicultural populations,
- how law enforcement diversity impacts community relations,
- the police-citizen relationship from a minority perspective,
- recommendations to improve police-citizen interactions, and
- the relationship between race and domestic terrorism.
Your reflection paper must be at least two pages in length, not counting the title page and references page. The paper must include at least two scholarly references to support your position, including at least one from the CSU Online Library. All sources used, including the textbook, must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying APA citations.
Please refer to p. 6 of the Citation Guide to properly cite a personal communication (i.e., the interview). Please keep direct quotes to less than 20% of the total paper. Papers must contain an introduction and a conclusion, and please use APA headings for organization.
