A computer needs an IP address (ex.192.168.1.1) to communicate with another computer on the Internet. Currently we are using IP address version 4 (IPv4), in the future we will use IP address version 6 (IPv6). You may view your computer’s IP address by clicking Start > Run. At the Run prompt, type COMMAND and press Enter. At the command prompt, type IPCONFIG /ALL. Here is a sample:

IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.10.10.20
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 10.10.10.1
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.10.10.1

In your research paper,
1. Describe the functions of IP address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway address, and DNS Servers address.

2. Compare private address and public address.

3. Describe NAT (Network Address Translation)

4. Compare the IPv4 and IPv6.
