Generalizability is a measure of how useful the results of a study are for a broader group of people or situations. By knowing what generalizability actually means, it helps understand what this statement is saying. To me, this statement is saying that researchers prefer to use generalizability in regard to measurements from different samples. There are many types of inferential statistics and each is appropriate for a specific research design and sample characteristics. Inferential statistics can be used to make judgments of the probability that an observed difference between groups is a dependable one of one that might have happened by chance in the study. With this being said, researchers can use the generalizability of it to see how the results may play out.

With generalizability, researchers can use statistics to take population samples with the understanding the sample data will reflect or mimic population data. If the results of a study are broadly applicable to many different types of people or situations, the study is said to have good generalizability. An example of the statement presented would be someone living with a rare disease. This is because it is different and depending on the specifics of the study, the results may not apply to others. “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.” Proverbs 16:3. This scripture tells us, that in whatever we do, even in research, perform as if for the Lord and you will always triumph. This is something that we should always remember.

Prompt: Some researchers contend generalizability is a cornerstone for working with inferential statistics.

To understand the above statements, we have to understand the two definitions. Inferential statistics is mostly applied to comparing the differences between groups or treatment groups. Generalizability is a measurement of how a study is beneficial to another boarding group of people or situations. If a study is broad enough to apply to a large array of situations, then it is considered to have good generalizability. But if it only applies to a few situations then the generalizability is considered to be narrow. An example of this would be doing a research study on water, but the results could be used to evaluate ice and gas too. This is because the results could be used for other situations. However, the researcher is conducting a study on the melting point of water at different altitudes that would not be great generalizability because it is very specific to water. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” As a researcher is conducting his or her study it is vital to remember to seek the Lord\’s face, even when things get tough as we seek the Lord he will provide the help we need.
