What is love, lust, and infatuation? What is the difference between love, lust, and infatuation?

According to our textbook,

The Greeks believed there are 4 concepts of love:

1: Storge: loving attachment, deep friendship, non-sexual (an emotion between parents, children or close friends).

2: Agape: Similar to generosity or charity (selfless giving).

3: Phillia: Closest in the meaning of friendship ( based on like and respect not sex).

4: Eros: passionate or romantic love (involves strong component os sexual desire).

Lust: could be described as a person who feels strong sexual arousal in conjunction with an idealized image of the object of their desires but lacks a commitment.

Infatuation: is a state of intense absorption or focus on another person. Which is usually accompanied by sexual desire, elation, and general physiological arousal or excitement: Passion

The difference between them is that Love, as defined by the Greeks is unconditional. You love every part of them, even the annoying parts. Lust is when you are horny and see the man of your dreams (hit it and quit it). Infatuation: Someone who is obsessed and can not think of anyone else, stalkers (2018)

  1. What is love, lust and infatuation? What is the difference between love, lust, and infatuation?

Love can be defined in many different forms depending on the viewpoint of the person and the person they intend to receive it. Four concepts from the Greeks that describes the different kinds of love is storage, agape, philia and eros (Fichner-Rathus, Rathus, Nevid, 2017). Each of the four concept have different meanings such as storage and philia would be the loving attachment, non-sexual affections for someone of deep or great friendship, agape is a giving and selfless such as generosity. Lastly, Eros would be would be what I would call being “in love”, romantic feelings, passion for another.

Lust to be more of a sexual arousal, physical attraction that one person can have for another. I believe that lust can be viewed as an immature form of love that has not fully developed past the “sexual desire” stage.

Infatuation is defined as the intense engrossment or “focusing” one a particular person when it comes to sexual pleasures or the desire of sexual pleasure or the person in general. An infatuated individual could lose sight of self and reality when they are “hooked on a person and build of an idealistic version of a person.

I believe the difference between each of these is the level of maturity and understanding of feelings and emotions. Love to me is the mature form of the three and would be the once that require the most open and honest understanding of your feelings and emotions.
