Discuss which of the Five Forces is the most important driver of your industry

Respond to ONE OF THE DISCUSSION OPTIONS BELOW in a minimum of 175 words. Please state which option you are replying to at the beginning of your initial post.

OPTION 1: External Industry Environment & Five Forces – Your Industry

Discuss which of the “Five Forces” is the most important driver of your industry (NB – be sure to first state how you define your industry).

Then consider and discuss which one “Force” might become the *next* driving “force” of your industry in the foreseeable future and why.

OPTION 2: Internal Environment: Capability & Sustainable Competitive Advantage – Your Org

Identify and discuss at least one capability in your organization that can lead to a sustainable competitive advantage? As a part of this, assess and discuss how this capability meets the VRIO Model of Sustainability.

I’m having a hard decision on deciding which company to chose. The company I chose I will also need you for the other asignaments for the remainder of the class.

This is what the instructor put:

You will find that many of our Learning Activities and papers involve assessing different aspects of business strategy of your organization from various perspectives. And, indeed, I would encourage everyone to choose to study the organization where you currently work, both in order to gain a fuller understanding of how to apply the tools and concepts we learn in this class to your employer, as well as to better equip and inform yourself for your career with them going forward.

However, there are times when it may be better to choose a different company to study and analyze. Many of our course materials are based upon the implicit assumption that they will be applied to “for profit” businesses. Some students who work for “non-profit” or government organizations sometimes find it somewhat more challenging to apply these concepts (at least right away). In addition, some students may be very new to their current employer, or are planning to make a career change in the near future.

First, let me propose that most all of the concepts and tools we study in this course *can* and *should* be applied equally well to *both* profit and non-profit organizations. The purpose of every organized group of people is to succeed in achieving some purpose. The concepts and tools we study are aimed at helping organizations to best determine and then achieve their goals and purposes. However, that being said, I admit that it can be somewhat challenging to jump in and start applying these tools and concepts in the “non-profit” arena right off the bat. Sometimes it is easier to wrestle with them using a “for profit” organization and then shift your focus to applying them to a non-profit arena.

Bottom line – please feel free to choose the company or organization that you most want to study and “wrestle with” for the Learning Activities and individual assignments. Hopefully it will be your current organization, or one where you would love to work after you earn your Bachelor’s Degree (what great interview preparation). Some students find it best to discuss a previous employer where they have had more extensive experience. Understand, however, that no matter what company you choose, you will need to have a fairly good understanding of that company in order to answer these Learning Activities and papers. If you choose an organization that is not your own and/or one that you are not very familiar with, please do contact me with a Private Message so we can discuss.

N.B. – if you work for a non-profit organization and choose to study it for these questions and assignments, go for it! Please feel free to post challenging questions in our classroom and ask for help from our fellow learners on how best to apply our concepts to your particular non-profit environment (e.g. “what do think about the ‘threat of substitution’ and ‘buyer power’ for the Indiana Bureau of Prisons”… don’t laugh – that’s a thinly disguised actual issue from one of my previous classes – and the student,

I work for a cable company called Xfinity or some people call it Comcast. If I chose my company would you be able to to complete the question and also help with future assignments on the same company? If you rather do another company please let me know I do not mind. Which ever is easy
