El Greco was born Domenikos Theotokipolous,
he was a painter, architect and a painter of the Spanish Renaissance.

The artist was born in Crete in 1541. As an artist, he went to Venice to study with the greatest painter of the day Titan and became a student of Veronese and Tintoreetto. Among his finest works of this period are The Miracle of Christ Healing the Blind and View of Toledo. The Miracle of Christ Healing the Blind is an oil painting that was created on 47 x 57 1/2 in canvas. It is a depiction of a biblical event from the New Testament. Its shows a blind man crying out for Jesus to have mercy on him. Jesus placed his hand over the blind eyes with the intention to cure his blindness and for him to accept the Holy Spirit. During that period blindness signifies people without faith and sight being restowed means acceptance of faith.
The architectural setting shows linear perspective with a group of people in the background. The color
scheme that is used are sparkling colors such as yellow, olive green, red, off white, blue and brown.
The people are clothed in bright colors drapery. There are so much happenings taking place; Five
different scenes can be viewed in this painting. In the background a couple sits on the stair unaware of
the miraculous moment. Another couple at the front sitting on the ground seems to be taken up
with each other. The group to the left seems immerse in their own conversation while to the right which
appears to be the disciple are actually focused on the Jesus and the blind man. The artist creates
movement through the people gestures and postures.
The painting The Toilette of Venus was created by Francois Boucher. It was commissioned by Madame de Pompadour as part of her collections for her luxurious bathroom at her Bellevue residence. Francois Boucher’s success was boost immensely by Madam de Pompadour’s patronage, the talented and beautiful mistress of Louis XV. This is an oil painting that was created on a 42 5/8 x 33 ½ in canvas. One of the reasons for the selection of this painting is its timeless quality of sensuous seduction. This picture shows a nude woman surrounded by cupids and doves which are attributes to Venus as Goddess of Love. Venus sits on a lavish Rococo style sofa with a dove around her arm and another at her feet. Both doves appear to
be in movement. One of the cupids arranges her hair while the other retrieves her jewel from a platter. There are flowers, vases and jewels arrange at her feet. The pearls are a symbol of mysterious birth from the sea. It has been accepted that the model for this Venus was madam de Pompadour herself. The luxurious setting is a reflection of her wealth and status. The glorious display of velvet, satin and gold damask drapery represents the Victorian era. The goddess and cupids represent Renaissance Art. Boucher has chosen a vibrant color scheme that
is rich and exquisite. The sparkling surface technique and sensuous textures signifies Boucher’s work. The drapes are partially opened which reveals a column outside, an overcast sky and trees. This painting shows Boucher was in fact a master in the Rococo style. Boucher avoids using parallel lines and as a result it is almost impossible to perceive linear perspective. This painting is splendid; the intricacy of colors along with the textures, the different treasures, cupids and goddess are part of the eighteenth century. It is a fine piece of art that shows an
extraordinary version out of an ordinary object. Boucher combines all the different features of art to make this
painting rather enlightening
