The variable I chose for this discussion is the number of Vacant Housing Units in Beach Park

Martha

Hello everyone,

The variable I chose for this discussion is the number of Vacant Housing Units in Beach Park, Illinois. The years I chose to compare these variables are from 2015 to 2020. The estimated number of vacant housing units in 2015 was 517,287 with a +/- 9,843 margin of error. In 2020, the estimated number of vacant housing units was 489,324 with a +/- 8,662 margin of error.

The null hypothesis would be written as: H0: µ1= 517,287 and Ha: µ1 < 489,324. The null hypothesis will deem no change from 2015 to 2020, however the alternative will show a decrease in vacant homes. This does not seem to be a significant change for 5 years, however a decrease in vacant homes means more community members. This could mean that the population in Beach Park has grown, leading to changes in schooling, costs of mortgage and utilities, and more.
