Plessy v. Ferguson is one of the most famous Supreme Court cases in U.S. history. What happened in the case and what precedent did it set?
The events took place in a train in 1892, when Homer Plessy sat in a railroad car designated for whites only. This was against the railroad company. He used to be treated as an African- American because he was seven eighths white and one eighth black. His designated area in the car was that of the ‘colored’ patrons. He was forced to vacate from his seat and sit in the blacks’ only car. Plessy refused and he was immediately detained. He was charged with violating the Separate car Act. Judge John Howard Ferguson ruled out that the state of Louisiana, which had sued Plessey, had all the rights to ……………..
