Part 1 should identify a problem associated with healthcare, which contributes to the high costs of our healthcare system (10%).

 

Part 2 should discuss the current attempts and government programs used to deal with the problem. It should explore the criticisms or shortcomings of these attempts or programs (30%).

 

Part 3should examine the demand side and supply side factors contributing to the crisis and other economic concepts mentioned such as information failures, rent seeking, monopoly, externalities, etc. This is the economic analysis portion of your paper (25%).

 

Part 4 should be where you put in your conclusions and try to resolve any issues raised in your research.  You also provide possible solutions you found in your research(25%).

 

Part 5

Your paper should have at least 5 articles referenced.

A work cited page is required.

References need to have in-text citation (10%)

 

The paper needs to be at least 1100 words long though it can be longer.

The current healthcare program is characterised by high spending that exceeds $2.6 trillion, about 18% of the US GDP. This is has seen healthcare rising at a faster and alarming rate than inflation and economy as a whole. This rise has been attributed to use of costly technologies and drugs. According to research by Lawton and Parker (2002) this contributes to the single largest factor contributing to the escalating costs.

A case study of treatment of MI shows that before the 1980s, MI treatment was less costly but ineffective. The current MI treatment is done by the use of fibrinolysis and angioplasty which is costly. It has been observed that many new treatments offered are not only costly but ineffective……………………………….
