There are many issues regarding the health care of incarcerated people, especially in the US.
Many people believe that since prisoners are being punished, they should not be entitled to anything more than the most minimal health care, especially since so many people have to pay so much for them.
It is clear that some treatment of prisoners, especially solitary confinement, is very likely to traumatize prisoners and will make them less able to return to society.
It is also clear that a very large proportion of the incarcerated have serious mental illness. Jails are arguably the main form of housing for mentally people.
