In this course we have discussed the incredible changes that occurred in the United States during the Gilded Age (1870-1900). We have covered the effects of industrialization and deskilling of the work place; the rise of wealth inequality and theories to justify or correct it; the massive waves of immigration from Southern and Eastern Europe amongst other changes in the country. Using the lectures and the textbooks explain what was the most important change or shift to occur in the United States during that time? Provide evidence of why you think this was the most important change in American society.
Essays should be no shorter than 500 words and preferably no longer than 750. You must use class readings in your essays for evidence, citing no less than 2 documents from the Voices of Freedom textbook along with your Give Me Liberty textbook. Your papers will be in MLA format with 1 inch margins, double-spaced, in 12 pt Times New Roman font and include citations for when using text from the sources. We will be using Chicago Style Citation for this paper, we will have a discussion on this during class. Please refer to the syllabus for information regarding what is plagiarism. Also attached at the bottom is a brief essay writing guide to help you with essay writing.
