I do believe that faith development is associated with other forms of development. I believe the sophistication in which you can describe and understand your faith is determined by other forms of development in the person. I do not believe that successful faith is determined by a successful development process. I think faith is something we are born with I do believe we naturally trust and believe in the people around us. As the author Fowler states, “Faith, taken in this broad sense, is a common feature of human beings. In the language of child psychiatrist Erik Erikson [10], faith begins with basic trust as the child forms bonds with the mother and other intimate caregivers” (Fowler & Dell, 2004, para 2). I believe we as humans have a natural faith inside of us. I believe as we grow and develop, it is easier to identify and understand the faith we have.

As a child, I always believed in God, even though I never attended church. I couldn’t have told you one fact about Jesus, except that I knew His name, however, I still believed. Now that I am more developed and educated, I know who Jesus is. My development helped me understand my faith but wasn’t the reason for it. When I had children, I wanted them to grow up knowing who Jesus is, not to mention I still needed some education myself. I started taking them to church and found my church home in 2007. The pastor there made a huge impact on my faith by teaching me in a way I could relate to. My faith development has led me to treat my relationships, work, and other people in general in a different way. It has led me to change the way I handle difficult situations and how I tackle conflicts. My growth and my faith have worked hand in hand to help me in everyday life. I continue to change and grow in both my faith and in my body. I believe they will continue to work together to get me through anything life throws at me.
