An explanation of how you have addressed evaluation or how you might address evaluation in your field education experience

Evaluation is an essential aspect of social work practice. It’s the fourth phase of the planned change process during which intervention outcomes are evaluated against goals and objectives, and the professional relationship is terminated (Garthwait, C. L. (2017). Although in my field agency, we refer clients to services for their well being, in the evaluation stage, I might address evaluation in my field agency by keeping track of the progress, feedback, taking notes, using active listening skills, and monitoring the clients to determine what works well and what could be improved with services provided. This also could go back to the intervention stage, I can follow up to see whether the intervention goals were achieved and how satisfied clients were with the service.

Evaluation helps in both our personal and professional growth (Garthwait, C. L. (2017). By receiving information from someone who is more experienced than us, we can find new ways to develop our social work skills in order to ensure that we are competent for the clients we serve.

An explanation of how you have addressed evaluation or how you might address evaluation in your field education experience

Evaluation is an essential part of social work for both practice and service delivery. Evaluation is effective in linking theory and method to practical application, and increasing accountability (Garthwait, 2017). As social workers, evaluation helps to understand and decide which interventions are effective for a client or not. The evaluation process also helps govern goals set during the planning stage. Social workers’ goal is to provide the highest quality of service possible, with the additional goal of preparing students for professional practice (Garthwait, 2017). Evaluation helps to identify problems faced in delivering services and strategies for overcoming these problems. There are several ways to address evaluations during my field experience I evaluate the client after working with them for some time and my supervisor evaluates me once a week. According to Wharton & Bolland (2012), evidence-based practice is a process of including the best available research evidence alongside practice wisdom to make clinical decisions and evaluate the outcomes of your decisions. Evaluation provides feedback on one’s learning and performance. During the evaluation stage, the client’s success in working their service plan is discussed, as well as determining what interventions worked for the client. In my agency, we evaluate clients who have abandoned treatment for months when they come back the therapist will evaluate them before they start treatment.

Evaluations consist of the ongoing verbal feedback and suggestions offered by the field instructor (Garthwait, 2017). My own personal evaluation with my field instructor has been very beneficial to me, it takes place once a week when we discuss my progress and that of the clients assigned to me. I understand that I am here to learn and grow and therefore I appreciate all feedback that is given. According to Garthwait (2017), starting as an intern you will receive feedback, suggestions, and constructive criticism during all phases of your practicum so that you can continue to grow professionally. I will continue to address evaluations from what I learned in my field experience by exploring different techniques depending on the client that will be assessed. All the programs are evidence-based interventions that display measurable outcomes. To discuss the progression of the service plan you must evaluate the client. When the client must have worked towards a goal or task that is listed on the service plan for a period. The task and goals are time-limited, and the client should have worked towards a goal by an agreed upon date.

An explanation of how you have addressed evaluation or how you might address evaluation in your field education experience

In my field experience, how I might address evaluation involves first being open to constructive criticism, asking questions, and taking helpful notes. However, as a learning practitioner, you should be able to identify three functions of supervisory practice: the administrative function, the supportive function, and the educational function (Garthwait, 2017). While being evaluated, it allows you to discuss things assigned tasks, things that are going well, and challenges you have faced. You also have to listen to feedback to make sure you understand where there are opportunities for growth and improvement. As a learning practitioner, I would like feedback that promotes professional growth in my career field. In the field, social workers often use supervision to ensure the quality of their work and to provide a structure for ongoing professional growth (Garthwait, 2017). During my evaluation, I hope to address any concerns related to the tasks that I have been assigned or how I am balancing multiple things at once. It is important to receive feedback and helpful tips on how you can effectively manage time and prioritize tasks from an experienced supervisor.
