Assignment: Research Proposal – Draft of Method Section

This Assignment is part of the Final Project’s Research Proposal that will be turned in at the end of Unit 9. In light of the fact that this Assignment will be part of your MSP portfolio and should represent the very best of your writing, the Assignment has been designed to be completed in portions to permit feedback and revision. The Assignment for this unit will produce a draft of your Method section; the Unit 4 Assignment was a draft of the Introduction section; and the Final Project in Unit 9 will incorporate revisions of both of these earlier assignments as well as an abstract.

As noted, this Assignment represents the Method section of your Research Proposal. It should have a title page and references page but should be formatted per the APA Publication Manual’s outline of a Method section (see page 44 of the APA Publication Manual for a graphic and description of the formatting). When it is revised for inclusion in the Final Project, some changes will need to be made, but if you have done well here, those changes will be minor.

The Method section of a Research Proposal is like the instructions portion of a recipe. It outlines in very specific terms everything that is necessary to cook the dish (to perform the research and collect the data). This includes describing the ingredients in very specific detail (describing the participants and how they are recruited, describing any apparatus or other materials necessary for the research to move forward) and then giving very detailed instructions on how make the dish (the procedure…how one will do the actual research). As with any other recipe, if anything is vague or left out of the description, the result will NOT be what was intended.

The Method section for the Research Proposal in this course will have five subsections, arranged in this order: Participants, Apparatus/Materials, Measures, Procedure, and Ethical Considerations. Apart from these subsections, there should be no other material in the Method section.

Under “Participants,” the population to be sampled from should be clearly described and the method of sampling (random, stratified, etc.) described along with the rationale for why that method will be used and how the actual recruitment will be performed.

“Apparatus/Materials” will describe any equipment or other materials that will be needed for the research. If you intend to use a questionnaire or inventory, it should be clearly identified here.

The “Measures” subsection describes the variables being assessed in the study. Describe the independent and dependent variables, how they will be analyzed, and how you will assess the reliability and validity of the measures.

The “Procedure” subsection must be completed in enough detail to ensure that someone else reading it could replicate the experiment exactly as proposed. Referring back to the recipe metaphor: if the recipe doesn’t clearly and exactly describe every step, each person using the recipe is likely to wind up with a very different food at the end. The procedure section should also clearly indicate what type of experimental design is being used (“quantitative, between-subjects design”).

The final subsection, “Ethical Considerations” will discuss appropriate ethical issues that might arise from performing the research: informed consent, privacy issues, etc. Don’t simply give a laundry list of the APA standards; discuss them in terms of your proposal and how you will ensure that you are in accord with the guidelines. If there are BACB guidelines that might also come into play here, they should also be discussed.

Introduction

My research focus is on domestic violence. According to the selected bibliographies I have selected, many terms have been used interchangeably to describe recession and the spike in domestic violence, including sensitivity, awareness, safety and responsiveness. However, cultural competency and integration may affect how recession and the spike in domestic violence are perceived it moves past awareness or sensitivity to action.

This paper focuses on the topic “

Some of the researches show that recession leading to an increased amount of domestic violence. There are experts who do not agree with this too. This paper will look at these researches and studies and books, and I am looking to draw my inspiration to write my own research on the topic.

Dalpiaz, C. M. (2009). Breaking free, starting over: parenting in the aftermath of family violence. Westport, CT:  Praeger Publishers.

The authors of this book review a number of factors that happen after domestic violence. Based on their research, it is evident that domestic violence aftermath is a critical aspect. The authors collected data from different areas in order to determine the effects of domestic violence aftermath. It was evident that the aftermaths of domestic violence are painful and hurting. It is evident the 70% of women living in every state has the wounds in domestic violence. Based on their book, research conducted through filling in the questionnaire, described that the abuser feels power and control over the weak person.

Participants in mainly had more than a few choices of choosing the type of data collection that was suitable for their research. Generally, there are more than a few ways that used in order to describe the effects or the aftermath of domestic violence on a human being. However, the use of questionnaire method was most appropriate for research, and a number of participants preferred it to other types of research methods

Increase in domestic violence due to the recession been suspected in the United States as well as Europe. This report talks about how recession is making domestic violence worse in the UK. This report based on the hypothesis that the recession is leading to more cases of domestic violence in the UK. This report has used statistics from the National Centre for Domestic Violence (NCDV) as well as other authorities in the country to establish that fact.

This report summarizes that there is a statistical connection between the increase in domestic violence and economic downturn. It stated that domestic violence increased by 17 percent over the period of recession. The quality of data mentioned in the report is good, and it does raises and mentions some good points. However, the report is not particularly comprehensive neither detailed which could have made it more helpful for readers to understand the issue better.

Iwi, K., & Newman, C. (2011). Picking up the pieces after domestic violence: A practical resource for supporting parenting skill. London:  Jessica Kingsley Publishers.

This book reviews the experiences that occur or happen after domestic violence. As described in the book, the outcomes of the research showed that 1 out of 3 women are victims of domestic violence. Generally, researchers resolved to focus on the offender and tried to create theories on what type of people should be in these relationships. It is evident that women are the subjects of abuse. According to the author, research revealed that few men suffer from the outcomes of domestic violence because they are powerful and stronger than women.

The authors argue that the aftermath of domestic violence cannot be determined by apologies or other suitable approaches. Generally, it is evident that after domestic violence, women no longer find it easy to trust a man who brutally beat them. Research reviews that it is impossible for a woman to trust a man who has brutally inflicted pain on them. It is evident that more than a few women remain with memories for years. Research conducted reviewed that most women work out of their relationships because of domestic violence. The outcomes could be that they will never get back to the relationship again, or they will never get the chance to love again.

This article had a different view as compared to the other two sources referred for this paper. While mostly the news reports and media resources have reported with statistics of increased domestic violence due to the recession and slowing economic condition.

This article argues that despite all these reports supporting this relation. There is no dependable evidence accompanying that claim. The article also points out that this claim s made only by some statistics seen this time during the recession and there have not been any studies that have examined the impact of prior recessions on domestic violence to study the correlation (if any) between the two.

This chapter also explores the possibility of fall in domestic violence during better economic times. This article is quite detailed and looks at facts and arguments very objectively. It is quite detailed and specific too and raises good points against the common thought on the topic. Based on the research and study of the above subject we can easily say that we have a better idea about this issue now. This point out the importance of the process of writing an annotated bibliography and how it actually helps researchers to grow the quality research questions and hypotheses.

Annotated Bibliography really gives the researcher a deeper understanding of the subject and opposing views on the topic too. This helps us in understanding the subject better, which obviously lays a good foundation for further work on the topic by the researcher. This work on annotated bibliography really helped my understanding of the subject.

Reuters (2009, May 12 2009). Mary Kay`s Truth About Abuse. Survey Links Economic Downturn to National Increase in Domestic Violence, pp.29-35. Retrieved from http://www.reuters.com/article/2009/05/12/idUS167996+12-May-2009+BW20090512

The basic hypothesis of this article is that domestic violence has risen during the recession period. This article based on a survey done which supports the hypothesis. The survey indicated that domestic violence shelters nationally to be assessed and interviewed. The results of the survey reflected: 73% population thinks the increase in abuse to “financial issues.” Another key issue the article hinted to be causing increased domestic violence is “Stress” and “job loss”. The article also stated the large were on the increase in the Southern region at 78% , followed by west coast at 74% and Northeast coast at 72%.

This article establishes the growth in domestic violence during the recession period through strong statistics, which make people think. Not just that, the article also attempts to answer the question what could be the possible reason of increased violence during regression. The article puts together key pointers well. As described in the above-cited articles, breaking the bond of domestic violence outcomes is difficult. However, there are still psychological issues that can emerge after the outcomes of domestic violence. One of the major ones is psychological disorder. There are more than a few strengths and weaknesses identified by researchers based on the aftermath of domestic violence. One of the major strengths is that the aftermath of a domestic violence aids women to have the courage to face challenges.

This article has good information as well as short yet strong and reliable analysis behind the issue too. The method used by this article was a survey, which had, more than 600 shelters polled on it, which establishes the credibility with such a large sample size. This report was genuinely helpful in understanding this issue better.

Participants claimed that challenges involved after domestic violence aids people with the reason and considerable purpose to live again. Based on the researches, most of the successful women moving forward in life and are the ones who have faced real heart breaks moments during or because of domestic violence. Domestic violence gives people the reason and the edge to live and to become better people in life.

Conclusion

In my annotated bibliography,  I have lain the foundation how the method of establishing an annotated bibliography collectively would help the researcher to shape up  researches to develop quality research proposals together with hypotheses as the variety of communities analyze in research progress.

There is a rising recognition that researchers must bring forth a basic understanding or conceivably an immensely learned insight of the title role that domestic violence may carry on in their research. for that reason, there is an assumption that the form of need for researchers to take under consideration, how distinguishing characteristic in the value system can influence the  understanding of the research focus and conceivably furnish the researcher with abilities to intensify ones reciprocal action with the discussion in the distinct research field of inquiry or inhabitants. Social proficiency is crucial for researchers to dispose of these solicited experiences.

Despite the fact that there appears to be restricted sources and literary productions available on cultural proficiency in the domains of domestic violence for the researchers, organizations including state/federal arms of the government are becoming well knowledgeable  of the effect.

Without Regard To, the previously mentioned interventions can only be pleasantly accomplished with the participation of interpretation that has been given account of and translated within the frame of reference of a distinct ethnic group. It is expected that this source will build a significant enrichment to researchers in this attempt and put together a concrete basis to domestic violence in the research
