2. response to dawn \\\”Diversity to me means not taking things for face value. Diversity is a group of people who have different values, beliefs, cultures, ethnicity, and views. Diversity is not just the difference between a race however it\\\’s looking a group of people knowing that they all have a different view of how they want to be represented. Diversity can be asking a person what their preferred pronouns are. Do they identify as a man or woman or even something else? It’s knowing that not all Latinos are Mexican, not all Asian people are Chinese, and so on. Diversity also means that just because a person may look a certain way it may not be the way they want to be represented. People of mixed races may identify with one more than the other or both in different aspects. Understanding that everyone has a mind of their own with their own personal values I believe is key into understanding diversity, not everyone that looks similar or lives in a certain area will always have the same values and beliefs. Toseland & Rivas (2017) stated “some members may clearly identify with a single racial or ethnic background whereas others may identify with more than one, or none”. Diversity in a group setting can allow for members of the group to view differences in attitudes, norms, structures, and values positively when trying to understand another’s views and identity (Toseland & Rivas, 2017). Group sessions, if performed properly by an educated leader can allow for different views and ideas on a common problem. It may also allow members to see how the common problem is viewed by others offering additional support and encouragement. References

Netting, Kettner, McMurtry, and Thomas (2017) identify four changes in historical social conditions that contributed to the development of social work.

For this discussion, identify the four changes, discuss how they were historically relevant to social work, and state which period you believe had the greatest influence on the development of the social work profession.

4. RESPOnd to BRYAN\\\” In this week\\\’s chapter of our readings, Netting & colleagues outlined for historical social conditions from which the social work profession emerged, which include immigration and population growth, industrialization and urbanization, changes in institutional structures, and emergence of a welfare system (Netting et al., 2016). Much of what was described regarding the historical social conditions occurred in the mid to late 1800\\\’s, such as industrialization and urbanization occurring after the conclusion of the civil war. America experienced an influx of immigrants from across the globe during this time, and it is stated in our readings that post civil war was the largest population growth period (Netting et al., 2016).Based on all the information given, I would conclude that the post-civil war period of America had the greatest influence on the social work profession. America saw immigration and expansion of diversity like never before and at a rapid rate. Industrialization and urbanization changed the economic landscape and laid the base for what would become the inner-city lifestyle, and the experiences of inner-city poverty (Netting et al., 2016). Regarding changes in institutional structures, the massive change from immigration and industrialization resulted in the need for organizational hierarchies, and also resulted in defined social class systems (Netting et al., 2016). For the emergence of a welfare system, the new social issues presented by the post-civil war era created the first ever organizational need for welfare systems which contributed to the need for social work professionals. Also noteworthy is that this period included the establishment of Settlement Houses & Charity Organizations, which are often referenced as the starting point for social workers (Netting et al., 2016).\\\”

5.RESPOND to JEWEL \\\”In this post, the history of Macro social work and the roots of Macro social work are discussed. To begin, there are four changes that have impacted the development of Macro practice level over time population growth and immigration, industrialization and urbanization, institutional structures, and the emergency of a welfare system ( Netting, 2017). Growth and immigration is a concern that Macro level social workers must look into. The United States reports that in 1790 the population was 4 million in 2010, but now the United States reports that the population increased to 309 million and continues to increase rapidly( Netting, 2017). Also, as stated in our text, “As the United States became more urbanized and industrialized, its social structure also changed, especially the system of organizations that meet people’s needs”(Netting,McMurtry, & Thomas, 2017). Growth has been a huge factor with some of the societal changes we see in the world lately. Our text notes that in the 1800s this was the fastest period of growth population this nation has seen (Netting, 2017). However, systems, and organizations are put in place for such rapid growth such as in the past people could rely on the Elizabethan Poor Laws and settlement houses when in in need of resources such as shelter, food, or clothing. Growth is a huge part of the changes that we see, more people mean more resources are going to be needed. Changes such as urban crime, poverty, unemployment and blighted neighborhoods(Netting, McMurtry, & Thomas, 2017)..\\\”
