Darling-Hammond (2010) talked about how increased accountability is a double-edged sword

Darling-Hammond (2010) states that, “While inequalities in educational opportunity in the United States continue—and have actually grown worse in many states over the last 2 decades—recognition of the increasing importance of education to individual and societal well-being has spawned an education reform movement focused on the development of new standards for students” (p. 66). What educators have noticed in these developments, however, is that not all of them are moving educational reform and student progress in the right direction.

In four to five paragraphs, choose one of the following options for your initial discussion board post:

Option One:

Darling-Hammond (2010) talked about how increased accountability is a double-edged sword. Explain in your own words what you believe she meant by this statement. Using your weekly readings and additional research, be sure to examine both views on this topic. In your response, you may want to think about educational initiatives that have come and gone and the impact they have had on the U.S. educational system.

Option Two:

Reflect on the following quote: “There is a belief among some that additional resources play no role in producing better-educated students” (Darling-Hammond, 2012, p. 101).

Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Explain your reasoning.

While funding is a major factor in achieving educational equity, do you think there are alternatives to improve equity that are not dependent on financial backing?
