Instructions: Keeping up with the day to day events that affect the hospitality industry, specifically the lodging industry, is important and can be accomplished by reading a daily paper, particularly the business and travel sections or by reading online articles as they relate to hospitality. The New York Times (NYT), The Wall Street Journal, and The Philadelphia Inquirer are all good sources for articles, as is cnn.com, usatoday.com, andnytimes.com . Additionally, trade journals can provide information on current events in the sector of the industry they focus i.e. Lodging Magazine.
During the course of the semester, each student will be asked to report on a current event related to the area of hospitality industry we are currently discussing in class. On their assigned day, each student will be asked to share with the class a very brief 5 minute summary of their chosen article. You be required to type a one to two page summary of:
The events discussed
The impact these events have on your chosen sector of the hospitality industry.
Attach it to the article which will be collected after it is presented in class. Since this is a current event, the story should not be any older than one month. The desired outcome is that each student will begin checking one of the papers on a regular basis to find a current event and that this behavior will continue after the assignment has been completed.
