In our M.U.S.E. lesson Criminal Charges Defined, it defines homicide as the unlawful killing of one person by another person. Homicide can be divided into many legal categories including murder, man slaughter, and justified homicide. Some homicides are considered crimes and others permitted or ordered by law. There are 4 different types of homicides,
1. First degree murder which is the highest level consist of premeditated criminal homicide.
2. Second degree murder which is without premeditation it falls between voluntary man slaughter and man slaughter.
3. Voluntary man slaughter which happens in the heat of the moment.
4. Involuntary man slaughter which is not on purpose but is a result of criminal behavior.
An example of assault would be attempted battery in which violence or force is used to injure or harm a person.
For example I just left a 15 year relationship where I had been assaulted by being hit, kicked, and choked. Sometimes it was threats of violence or worse, but now I\’m free and in a safe place.
The elements of a burglary are as follows:* Unauthorized breaking and entry,* into a building or occupied structure,* with the intent to commit a crime inside.
