The report should be approximately two to three pages in length. If the company you are analyzing is on Fortune’s list of 100 best companies to work, read the report on it and see if that conforms to your impression of the company. If it is not on the list, use the formatting for the Fortune 100 as a template for analyzing the company as a potential employer. Note the reasons Fortune adds companies to the list. Review your company’s website and gather information about the company’s mission and goals, history, products, services, and current news releases. Find out where the home office is located, who leads the company, and how many employees work there. After researching the company, list your reasons for wanting to work there. Issues may include international competition, changing technology or problems such as recalls or executive changes. 3.This assignment focuses on the “other” part of being a good communicator –editing your own writing and the writing of others. An editor has to think about the same things as a writer — the audience, goals of the document, language use, and formatting.

It sometimes appears to be easier to revise someone else’s work than your own. But a good editor will take a minute and put themself into the mind of the original writer. When you take this role, you should try to understand the goals of the original writer and edit with that in mind.

To that end, for this assignment, you will revise the supplied sentences (below) be more precise, to use proper grammar and punctuation, and to have a clear focus. In a document, copy the sentences as they are, and then rewrite each one.

Note: This may require you to replace some of the sentences with several shorter ones. (In other words, it is not necessary to attempt to rewrite each sentence into a single, new sentence. The goal is to use plain language to make the meaning clear!)

Revise the following sentences to use plain language and familiar words:

  1. The writer tried to obfuscate the issue with extraneous and superfluous data.
  2. To expedite ratification of the agreement, we beseech you to vote in the affirmative.
  3. Although the remuneration seems low, it is commensurate with other pay packages.
  4. Bank tellers were interrogated after the robbery, but no strong evidence materialized.
  5. Researchers dialogued with individual students on campus, but subsequent group interviews proved fruitless.
