Part 2—Now that you have written a practice essay, it is time to put your metacognitive tools to work. Metacognition is basically thinking about your thinking. It puts you in the driver’s seat when it comes to assessing your own performance and developing strategies for success. Take a moment to reflect on your writing process. Answer the following questions in complete sentences:
What was the purpose of your essay?
How did you prepare to write the essay?
What did you do well when writing the essay?
What would you do differently the next time you have a similar essay prompt?
As you look at your essay, what is one area you would like to improve? What resources can help you with this?
