The U.S began the process of withdrawing from the Paris Agreement on climate change

Global Citizens Assignment

In June 2017, the USA began the process of withdrawing from the “Paris Agreement” on

climate change; we had previously been a party to this agreement, but President Trump is

opposed to our continued participation. Do you recommend that we remain a party to

this agreement, or withdraw? Explain and justify your answer with evidence and reasoning.

You must include at least 10 references.

You must give complete bibliographic citation for your references.

You can include books, articles from scientific journals, articles from reputable magazines (e.g., TimeNewsweekEconomist), articles from reputable newspapers, government reports, reports from other organizations, and/or other printed resources.

You can use web sites or Internet references, but these will not count towards your 10 sources. You must have 10 sources excluding web sites or Internet references. It is fine to use Internet- based search engines to locate sources, but the actual sources of information should not be web sites or Internet references. (Make sure you know the difference.)

Here are the only allowable exceptions to the restriction on Internet-based sources.

o You may download reports from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). You might wish to use the Synthesis Report and/or the Summary for Policymakers, as these documents are written for a general audience.

o You may download and cite bills that have been introduced into the United States Congress (e.g., via http://www.house.govhttp://www.senate.gov, or http://thomas.loc.gov).

References should be formatted according to the guidelines of the American Psychological Association (APA). Note that, among other requirements, references should be double- spaced, be alphabetized, and have a hanging indent. The font is Times or Times New Roman.

For each of the (at least) 10 references on your list, first provide the complete bibliographic information for the reference in the style of the journal you have selected. Then, write a brief paragraph in your own words that summarizes the main points or findings of the article as it pertains to your topic. This means you must actually read and comprehend the articles on your list! For instance, you might have an entry like this:

Robinson, A.B., Robinson, N.E., & Soon, W. (2007). Environmental effects of increased atmospheric carbon dioxide. Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons12, 79–90.

The authors contend that increased concentrations of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere have not led to any negative effects on weather or climate. They examine sea surface temperature over the past 3,000 years and claim that the temperature now is colder than it was about 1000 years ago. They examine arctic air temperature and U.S. surface temperature since 1880 and claim that these temperatures correlate strongly with solar activity, but not with hydrocarbon usage. However, their sea surface temperature data don’t look like results we have seen in other sources, so we might need to check how they got their estimates. Same for solar activity – their estimates of solar activity are different from others we have seen, so we might need to check on their estimates. Notice that I summarized key points of the paper, wrote in my own words, and indicated how the paper might relate to my particular project.
