1. As today’s technologies became more widespread, it seemed that they would create new opportunities for individuals to express themselves and lead to greater democracy because more people could have more access to information and more access to express their views. At the same time, today\’s technologies are sometimes used to tighten authoritative control. What are some of the ways in which technology has democratized some aspect of social life? In what ways have you seen it become more hegemonic?

2. Some of the readings this week discuss various philosophies of communication genres, emphasizing that genres of communication help constitute the way people function together within organizations.
