Last week one of the focuses of the module related to the use of paraphrasing as you include outside research within your papers. This contrasts to using direct quotes and is typically preferred in scholarly writing. Depending on your Dissertation Committee, there could be a prohibition on using direct quotes in your dissertation. Developing your paraphrasing skills is therefore rather important toward achieving your end goal. Why do you think, in 150-250 words (don\’t forget the citation), that paraphrasing is more preferred in scholarly writing, is it ever permissible to use direct quotes, if so why?
