Choose a company or industry and relate it to a topic in the textbook Examples: globalism, comparative advantage, trade barriers such as tariffs, the economy of a foreign country, U.S. trade relations with another nation, United Nations, trade treaties such as USMCA or the EU, international investment, exchange rates, the international dealings of a company, LDCs, international oil industry, etc.
(I have chosen to discuss the petroleum industry. This includes the benefits and costs/ drawbacks of international dealings involving the outsourcing of oil and gas.)
2. Discuss your subtopics thoroughly, using outside sources in addition to the textbook. Give examples and elaborate on the key concepts. You may refer to current events.
3. Use critical thinking.
4. Submit the topic to the professor for approval on the assigned date.
Outline or rough draft
(Outline should be ¾ – 2 pages in length following the title page)
I. Title: provide a tentative title for your term paper
(Underneath the title indicate the chapter from the textbook or indicate special topic)
II. Introduction: brief explanation on what the term paper is about
(For the actual term paper, the introduction should be ½ page to 1 page in length)
III. You should have 2 or 3 main sections in the term paper.
IV. Conclusion or Summary: main points or results; you may express your opinion on any major results (For the actual term paper, the conclusion, implications, and opinions should be 1-2 pages in length)
V. Bibliography: 5 or more sources for actual term paper, including textbook
Tips for the actual research paper due at the end of the semester:
-Make use of graphs, tables, relevant pictures, important statistics, direct quotes.
-You may submit a rough draft of the term paper for feedback from the professor (optional)
-Term paper text should be 7-10 pages in length, double-spaced, 12-point font, 1-inch margins. (excludes graphs, tables, long quotes, pictures, bibliography)
-Make sure to use subheadings on the actual term paper.
