There will be at least three required “Cultural Immersion Experiences.” These will have to be done in accordance with the CDC Covid-19 Guidelines of social distancing and wearing a mask. You may conduct these interviews in person or via Zoom (or a telephone interview as a last resort).
You will be required to interview at least three people who are outside of your own culture. Some examples include: LGBTQ, Jewish, Muslim, Latinex, Caucasian, Native American, British, Chinese, Japanese, etc.
Cultural Immersion Summary:
After conducting your interviews, you will be required to write a 5-8 page summary of your conversations. Please follow APA Guidelines when formatting your paper. If references are used, you must include a reference page (even if it is the textbook). You should have at least 5 sections: Introduction, Interview 1, Interview 2, Interview 3, and Conclusions.
Suggested questions to include in paper:
Prior to your experience, what were some of the stereotypes that you believed about this group?
Discuss some of your impressions of this culture before your encounter. Did they change after your experience?
How do you think your cultural background influenced what you observed?
What surprised you in what you learned about this person/people group and about yourself?
Is there anything from this experience you wish was part of your own culture?
