the author of the textbook uses the term “the feminization of poverty.” What do you think the author means by that term? Why would women be more vulnerable to living in poverty? What cultural factors might contribute to that?

The author uses the term feminization of the poverty to mean that a large majority of the world’s poor are women.  Women, especially in developing countries bear the largest burden of poverty because women have traditionally been deprived of opportunities to create wealth for themselves. Gender biases have existed in the society as a whole from since time immemorial (Crapo, 2013). The opportunities available in governmental agencies and societal organizations have almost always benefitted men. The situation has further been worsened by the increasing number of single mothers. Even though several factors put women at a higher risk of poverty, lack of income is the major cause of the feminization of poverty.
