Culture is the shared patterns of group thought and behavior that is acquired through intergenerational learning; worldview, knowledge, norms, values, and behavior shared by a group of people. Cultural understandings tend to be conveyed through language and is transmitted by the processes of socialization within a cultural group. They are reflected in the religions, morals, norms, values, rules, social roles, customs, technologies, and survival strategies of the group (Dreachslin et al., 2013). Culture determines how people adapt to both their social and material environments, work, parent, love, worship, marry, understand health and illness, and death (Dreachslin et al., 2013). It\’s also extremely important to remember that culture is learned, it is not inherited biologically.
The American culture does affect the way I see things. It affects my values, which is what we consider to be right and wrong. This is how the society we live in influences our choices. On the other hand, our choices can also influence others and ultimately help shape our society. No two people are exactly alike. Each of us is an individual with unique talents, interests, and values. Labels tend to get attached when others do not recognize what is so distinct about certain cultures. When people start attaching labels to others, it influences the way we think about our own identity.
